Rampant rata

a cousin of the pohutakawa the rata is a vine which climbs through our native forest this is the first time I have ever seen one flowering.
I really enjoy taking photos and would appreciate your feedback so that I can learn as I go. I particularly enjoy photographing birds animals and landscapes

Very pretty colours in the flower Deb, I like how you have captured it against the cold harsh rock as it really makes the colours of the flower pop, great light!

a wonderful catch -- it reminds me of a plant we have here -- bloom wise, unfortunately i cannot remember its name. love those marvelous stamens!

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks DJ at some point I will post a photo of its vibrant cousin who is much more spectacular. Would be interested to see a photo of its american cousin at some time.

Well seen and captured J. I thought it was the pohutakawa at first so I'm glad you put me straight on that. I love the background of rough bark...cool!

I also thought it was the pohutaka. I had no idea that the rata was a vine, I always thought it was a tree. Thanks for plant lesson, NZ native plants are beautiful!

Beautiful Flower, such lovely colours against the bark, we have something similar here in scotland which grows against rock.
