Camelia colourPosted by jamesy (christchurch, New Zealand) on 22 September 2008 in Plant & Nature. Over the next couple of weeks I thought I would celebrate spring with all of you from CHCH botanical gardens more specially the Daffodil Lawn I liked this picture because I could see the sun through the leaves of the flower. It is nearing the end of camelia season and the specimen isn't perfect. After I posted this I think that I could have cropped the right side a bit closer never mind. I really enjoy taking photos and would appreciate your feedback so that I can learn as I go. I particularly enjoy photographing birds animals and landscapes

I have tried to grow this plant inside in a potter, but it is very demanding, perhaps our light is not enough inside. 22 Sep 2008 10:50am @Leena: Thanks Leena I know that these plants like an acidic soil in Nz we feed them acid plant food maybe the potting soil is too alkaline Maxine from Rangiora, New ZealandAll of the above, stunning color! superb shot D. 22 Sep 2008 12:05pm @Maxine: thanks Max Iris from Aberdeenshire, United KingdomThis is a beautiful image Debby - I love the sunlight behind the petals. 22 Sep 2008 12:43pm @Iris: Thanks very much Iris @Eleftheria!: Thank you @leslie: Thanks Les Jeff from Pembroke Dock, United KingdomExcuse my ignorance but what's a Bokeh??..I'm glad you didn't crop it's right as it is.....Beautiful. 22 Sep 2008 2:57pm @Jeff: Now I can help you with Bokeh as I looked it up on the internet as didn't have a clue myself. It is the blurred background effect. If you google bokeh it will give you a better more technical answer. Anyway thanks very much for your kind comments Jeff Anthony Lambert from Bielefeld, Germanynice shot, lots of flower photos on aminus today and quite a few pink as well !! 22 Sep 2008 4:03pm @Anthony Lambert: Thanks Anthony there are alot of flowers aren't there Fliss from Melbourne Beach, United StatesSuch a gorgeous shade of pink... these remind me of my Nana... 22 Sep 2008 4:53pm @Fliss: Thanks Fliss. isn't it amazing Fuschias remind me of my Nana she was always telling us of for 'popping' the buds, they make such a great sound @Alun Lambert: Thanks Alun Zygene from morlaix, FranceDe superbes couleurs avec une jolie lumière ta photo. 22 Sep 2008 5:24pm @Zygene: Merci beaucoup Zygene willow from Chelsea, United StatesI like the backlighting. And I'm glad you didn't crop it tighter - I like it offcenter, too. 22 Sep 2008 6:50pm @willow: Thanks very much Willow sometimes its hard to know if centering is best or not Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaNice shot and colours. Cropping the right may put the subject dead center, which would not work. 22 Sep 2008 8:00pm @Graham Russon: thanks Graham I always appreciate your advice vu@granby - Gilles Martineau from Granby, Québec, CanadaYour photo makes this camellia flower diaphanous and pulpy. 22 Sep 2008 8:29pm @vu@granby - Gilles Martineau: Thanks for the comments and the visit Rui from Leiria, PortugalLovely colors and excellent use of DoF. Very beautiful. 22 Sep 2008 8:53pm @Rui: Thanks very much Rui @Calusarus: thanks Camiller from Lisboa, PortugalBeautiful!! You make such lovely pictures of flowers. Its like learning a whole new language isn't it Anita from West Nottingham, United StatesI like the softness of the flower--beautiful. And, of course, the fabulous color. As for cropping the right side, I don't know--I like the composition as it is--a bit off center. However, the bright white spots of light are a bit distracting. Don't know I would handle those. 26 Sep 2008 10:46am @Anita: I see what you mean I haven't a clue either never mind. Thanks for the visit and the advice |
