Ah! This bird i am very familiar with. They 'whizz' around our roof tops of a spring morning, screeching and squealing. I've yet to take a 'piccie'. This one is very good. Stands out so well against the blurred background.

I named my photoblog after them, after my second NZ visit at this year.
I loved the voice and the good family based behavior of the oystercathers but I've never seen a one like this one, just the blacks.

What a cool bird - love the eyes! Great perspective for this shot, too - I really like the looking up angle. And happy belated birthday to Matthew! I have a 16 year old son, too. Does yours eat you out of house and home like mine?
