Alun from Cheshire, United Kingdomgreat shot, a place i go (martine mere) we have thousands turn up once a year, it is a fine sight. 7 May 2009 5:30am chrissy from uk, United Kingdomgreat capture, looks as though he is about to take off 7 May 2009 6:57am @chrissy: he had just jumped out of the water MrsAmber from West Wickham, United KingdomYou can't cull these! It's called nature!! Mind you, a friend of mine's child got nipped in the finger by one of these and drew blood...her mother sucked her finger to clean it and they both ended up in casualty for the rest of the day waiting for a tetanus injection! Maybe she would have a different opinion! 7 May 2009 10:53am @MrsAmber: I guess the reason is they are an introduced species and are not doing the native species any good. thanks for the comments though its a good debate Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesThey are wonderful waterfowl...but...they have become a nuisance here. They have fouled several small parks killing off life in the ponds by polluting them with their waste. It was better last year. I'm not sure what they did to improve things other than dredge the sludge from the basins. Lovely action shot. 7 May 2009 11:08am @Laurie: thanks this is causing some good discussion Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaThey are a grand bird. However, they are very messy. 7 May 2009 11:28am Hidalgo from Herunen, FinlandThe goose is showing to us how mighty wings it has. If our experience is anything to learn from once they settle down you will have plenty of more opportunities to take wonderful pictures of them! 7 May 2009 1:50pm @Charles: believe me they aare already settled dj.tigersprout from New York City, USA, United Statesi love canadian geese!! and what a handsome lad he is!!! beautiful!! 7 May 2009 2:07pm Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaCome home sweethearts...it's warmer, beautiful photograph of the wing ;) 7 May 2009 4:02pm dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaMajestic pose - always nice to get bird shots when they are displaying themselves. 7 May 2009 4:11pm Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United StatesNice shot.....Not only are they a nuisance, but I'm pretty sure they were what caused that Jet to land in the Hudson River in New York City recently!! 7 May 2009 4:12pm Graham Russon from Cape Town, South AfricaNice shot. Culling unfortunately is sometimes the only way to bring balance back to an ecosystem. 7 May 2009 7:36pm @Graham Russon: I agree but it had raised some interesting discussion Bookfool from Mississippi, United StatesNice shot! Better not stick my foot in my mouth by expressing an opinion about culling. 7 May 2009 9:19pm observing from North West, United KingdomHe does seem to be showing us who is the boss around there ! 7 May 2009 11:44pm Ronnie 2¢ from London, United Kingdom. . and there was me out feeding a local pair with a family of eleven this very morning ! 8 May 2009 1:05am @Ronnie 2¢: You keep feeding them I didn't say they weren't cute One from Açores, PortugalA very beautiful composition, excellent motion capture ! 8 May 2009 4:32am starCosmosBleu from bedford.Qc, CanadaNice sho,,,t they do like to spread theirs wings...nice tones 12 May 2009 3:44am |
