the chimney

this is what this particular blowhole is known as for obvious reasons. Punakiki or the pancake rocks are a huge tourist attraction and we visited twice once in the evening when this shot was taken and once the next morning.
There are several blowholes at punakiki and the are best viewed at high tide While we were lucky enough to be there at high tide the sea was reasonably calm It is evidently better when there is a southerly swell.
In this shot you can see how the waves rush in at the bottom and the spray comes out at the top giving the impression of smoke coming out a chimney
